The Jury Court sentenced, last Thursday (11), Francisco Jamerson Sousa de Freitas and Marcelo Rodrigues Campos to a sum of more than 90 years in prison for killing and setting fire to the bodies of two men they believed to be from a rival faction. The crime took place in the Pedras neighborhood, in Fortaleza, in 2020. On the afternoon of April 9, the suspects broke into the residence and took the two men to nearby woods. There, the two men were executed by members of the GDE, who accused the pair of being part of the rival faction, Comando Vermelho (CV). The bodies were left in the woods. The police investigation states that upon noticing the presence of vultures in the region where the bodies were, Marcílio ordered Marcelo and Jamerson to set the bodies of the dead on fire. Marcílio was also accused of leading a criminal organization. The three were taken to a popular jury at the 2nd Jury Court of the District of Fortaleza. However, due to problems related to the defense panel, the trial of Marcílio - identified as the mastermind of the crime - was separated from the others, and only Jamerson and Marcelo were tried in this Thursday's session (11). The jury found Jamerson and Marcelo guilty of double homicide, concealment of a corpse and criminal organization. Jamerson Sousa de Freitas was sentenced to 41 years, one month and 15 days in prison, as well as a 240-day fine. Marcelo was sentenced to 51 years, seven months and 15 days in prison, in addition to a 240-day fine. Combined, the sentences exceed 92 years in prison. The two defendants were also sentenced to pay compensation of R$20,000 each to the victims. They must serve their sentences in a closed regime and cannot appeal the sentence while free.
