Mystery of the floors of the Parthenon Center Building, in Goiânia
Located in the center of Goiânia, the Parthenon Center Building is one of the most emblematic in the sector, occupying an entire block. But it also holds a mystery involving the numbering of the structure's floors, as the 8th floor does not appear in the elevator numbers. Publicist Mariana Alves Tavares, 20, made a video at the location explaining the mystery (see above).
Some legends mention that the supposed 8th floor was closed due to macabre incidents, such as accidents and crimes. According to a building employee, who did not want to be identified, the floor does not exist in the elevator, but appears in the building's registration documents with Goiânia City Hall.
"The 8th floor just doesn't exist in the elevator, but in the city hall registry there is a normal 8th floor, like a normal building," he stated.

In the video, Mariana shows the inside of the building, with an architecture that draws attention. To understand the mystery surrounding the supposed lack of this floor, you must first understand the structure of the Parthenon Center Building.

According to a document from the International Seminar on Architecture, Technology and Design, written by architects Eline Maria Moura Pereira Caixeta, from the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) and José Renato de Castro e Silva, from the State University of Goiás Pontifical Catholic University (PUC) of Goiás, the building, opened in 1976, was the first in Goiânia to house a rotating parking lot, representing the first 7 floors of the building, next to a commercial gallery on the ground floor.
"For me, the garage is the most emblematic part of the building, in a spiral. It is fantastic, and I was able to walk in it," Mariana commented to g1.

The building follows brutalist architecture, with exposed concrete, a style often seen in cities like São Paulo. Above the 7th floor, the document describes that the Parthenon Center Building houses office rooms and, at the top, has a garden terrace.
In the elevator, the floors continue up to the 17th floor, but without the 8th. It is precisely this division between the parking lot and the rest of the building that reveals the mystery, since the 8th floor would only be a supporting slab and, therefore, does not appear between the elevator levels.
"In mixed-use or large buildings, it is very common to have a technical floor. What is there: intermediate water reservoirs, air conditioning plants, electrical substations, hydraulic pumps or heavy ventilation shafts", explained engineer Jefferson Rosa Mendes.
Created by architect Antônio Lúcio Ferrari Pinheiro, the building also draws attention for its structural details, such as the fact that the parking lot with a cylindrical ramp is open, allowing air and light to circulate.
At the top, the building's design changes, moving from the rounded parking lot to a laminar structure, a vertical design that the document points out guarantees aeration and lighting.
Cultural importance
Being one of the architectural landmarks of the capital, the Parthenon Center Building was built on the space where the old Municipal Market of Goiânia was located. According to writer and researcher Ubirajara Galli, the building housed a typical food restaurant and a cultural space around the 90s.
"We were doing a very interesting project there, which was the Segunda Aberta, which was a mix of poetry and music with singers from Goiás. Poetic and musical interpretation", he highlighted. As part of the new generation, Mariana Alves explained that the objective of recording the video for her Daily Mariana Tavares profile was to bring the true history of Goiânia and highlight the value of the Center.
"I'm from Goiânia and I wanted to bring this love that I have for Goiânia", he stated.

She mentions that the building's structure caught her attention, but that, when she passed by, she didn't understand what it represented until she researched the building's history in depth.
Despite being a little forgotten, Mariana highlighted that the building continues to operate normally, with active commercial rooms and employees on site, but highlighted the importance of highlighting the historical value of the building.
"It could receive more attention. But the first step towards this is publicity. Bringing this more to light is the first step towards bringing this recognition to the next generations", highlighted Mariana.
Located at Rua 4, number 515 in Setor Central, the structure remains a local and historical landmark for the capital.
