Warning for dangerous storms
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a storm warning with a severity level classified as "danger" for 13 cities in the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba. The warning is valid between 12pm and 11:59pm on Friday (12).
According to the agency, rainfall of between 30 and 60 millimeters per hour or 50 to 100 millimeters is expected throughout the day, accompanied by intense winds that can vary between 60 and 100 km/h. There is also a possibility of hail.
The cities included in the alert are:
Long Water
Araxa
Campo Florido
Campos Altos
Conceição das Alagoas
Border
Fruity
Ibiá
Partridges
Flatness
Sacramento
Tapira
Uberaba
According to Inmet, there is a risk of electricity cuts, falling trees, flooding and damage to plantations.
Cold is expected to continue and rain remains scarce in the region
Forecast indicates instability until Sunday
In addition to the official warning for this Friday, a weather report prepared by geographer William Borges points out favorable conditions for the formation of storms in different areas of the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba between Friday (12) and Sunday (14).
According to the regional bulletin, Friday should be marked by the formation of isolated storm cores during the afternoon and night, with the possibility of localized heavy rain and a low to moderate risk of hail.
Saturday should be the highest risk of storms
Saturday (13) presents the greatest potential for severe phenomena in the region, especially in Uberlândia. There is a moderate risk for organized storms, strong winds, localized hail and a high incidence of lightning.
For Sunday (14), the tendency is for a gradual reduction in instabilities. Even so, isolated rain showers, electrical discharges and localized gusts of wind may occur.
The areas with the greatest potential for recording the phenomena include the municipalities of Uberlândia, Araguari, Indianópolis, Tupaciguara, Monte Alegre de Minas, Prata, Ituiutaba, Santa Vitória, Campina Verde, Uberaba, Conceição das Alagoas, Frutal, Araxá, Patrocínio, Monte Carmelo, Patos de Minas and Serra do Salitre.
Possibility of hail
According to William Borges, meteorological indicators show favorable conditions for the isolated occurrence of hail, mainly in areas of Alto Paranaíba, in the north of the Triângulo Mineiro and in the area between Patrocínio, Monte Carmelo, Araguari and Uberlândia.
The occurrence, however, must happen in a localized manner, a common characteristic of this type of phenomenon. The risk of hail decreases on Sunday, remaining only occasional.

Guidelines for the population
In case of gusts of wind, Inmet recommends that the population does not take shelter under trees, due to the risk of falls and electrical shocks. It is also advisable to avoid parking vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs. If possible, electrical appliances and the general power supply should be turned off during storms.
