The city of Toronto, Canada, hosted this Friday (12) the second opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cup. Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina were tied 1-1 at the Toronto Field Stadium, with goals from Lukic for the Eastern European country and Larin for the home team.  This was the first match on Canadian soil in 96 years of the World Cup, unlike the United States and Mexico, which have hosted the World Cup on other occasions. Both teams have one point and are ahead in group B, which also includes Qatar and Switzerland, who face each other this Saturday. Before the game, which had almost 44 thousand people present, some artists from Canada performed during the opening ceremony, such as Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé. When the ball rolled, Canada tried to press and had the first big chance with Jonathan David, who took advantage of the Bosnian defense to finish first, but goalkeeper Vasilij saved the shot. At 20 minutes, the Bosnian team opened the scoring. After a corner kick from the right, Kolasinac headed the ball towards the first post and Lukic, under the goal, with goalkeeper Crépeau already beaten, headed the ball into the net. Pushed by the fans, Canada pressed but did not find the goal in the first half. The second half saw great Canadian pressure. In the first few minutes Oluwaseyi made a beautiful individual play on the right wing and crossed dangerously. Vasilij walked away. Soon after, the two athletes got involved in a dispute inside the area and collided, but the referee did not consider the move to be foul. In the eighth minute, after a beautiful triangulation on the left, Laryea finished low, the ball passed Vasilij, but Kolasinac, practically on the line, managed to deflect the shot. The ball even hit the crossbar before being cleared. In the next minute, the Bosnia and Herzegovina team wasted a golden chance. The Canadian defense ended up cutting a ball straight to the feet of Demirovic, who advanced and tried to dribble past goalkeeper Crépeau already inside the area, but Canada's number 16 managed to deflect the ball. Canadian pressure intensified and the team did not let the opponent breathe. At 20, Oluwaseyi headed the ball and Katic avoided the goal on the line. Thirteen minutes later, the pressure paid off. After a play through the central lane of the Canadian attack, Promise David found a pass for Larin inside the area. He adjusted his body and kicked with his right leg. The ball deflected off the defense and entered the left corner of the Bosnian goal. In the final stretch of the match, Canada continued to occupy the offensive field, creating danger, but was unable to transform its dominance into more goals. The draw represented the hosts' first point in a World Cup. In the two previous appearances (1986 and 2022), the Canadians were defeated six times they entered the field. In the next round, the two countries will play on Thursday, the 18th. Bosnia and Herzegovina face Switzerland, in Los Angeles, while Canada faces Qatar, in Vancouver.
