Formally, this Friday, June 12, the European Union's Asylum and Migration Pact comes into effect, a titanic reform of immigration rules that seeks to unify the bloc's response. Specifically, the package aims to speed up asylum procedures (and deportations) and tightens control mechanisms. But, while its implementation is far from immediate, human rights organizations warn about the reduction of protection for asylum seekers and potential violations of guarantees.
