It is a France in shock which is discovering the extent of the dysfunctions of its justice system. The death of little Lyhanna, eleven years old, took the country by storm when the profile of the main suspect was known... Jérôme Barella, a "no-history" father, had in fact been lodging complaints and reports against him, for touching and rape, since 2017 without ever having been summoned by the authorities. The multiplication of testimonies from women against Patrick Bruel occurs during the same period. The camps clash: "everyone knew" against "he did not need to rape" but we remember on this occasion that the singer and actor had already been the subject of nine complaints from women in 2019. All dismissed for "insufficiently characterized offense". The star and the father of the family remain presumed innocent but these stories seem to show that the fire can smolder for a long time, in France, before justice can – or will? – act.
