Nigerian President Bola Tinubu announced on Friday that security forces were able to eliminate more than 13,000 militants over the past year, noting that remarkable progress has been achieved in confronting extremist groups and armed gangs active in several regions of the country. Tinubu stressed that the death toll resulting from the jihadist insurgency has decreased by 81% since he assumed power in May 2023, at a time when the government is continuing its security efforts and rehabilitation programs to restore stability, despite the continuing challenges of kidnapping and armed violence in some states.
