Nearly 4 thousand EVMs were burnt in a fire in a government building in Kolkata, West Bengal. These machines were used on 10 seats in the assembly elections held this year. After the incident, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have raised questions. At the same time, West Bengal Government Minister Kaushik Choudhary said that the fire does not seem normal. FIR has been registered and investigation has been started. The building houses many government offices including the South 24 Parganas District Council. It took about 24 hours to completely control the fire. The minister said - the fire does not seem normal. Kaushik Chaudhary said that the fire was first seen on the second and third floor. After this it reached the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth floors. He raised questions as to how the fire reached the top without causing much damage to the fourth, fifth and sixth floors. The situation will become clear only after the forensic report comes, but the possibility of conspiracy cannot be ruled out. Congress-AAP raised questions. Congress said- Government and Election Commission should tell how the fire started and how it reached the upper floors. AAP said- How did such a big fire break out in a government building and how did thousands of EVMs get affected by it? FIR registered, forensic investigation started. FIR has been registered in Alipur police station on the complaint of South 24 Parganas administration. Police is searching for the cause of the fire. It is not yet clear whether the fire started due to short circuit or some other reason. The forensic team will collect samples from the spot. The investigation will also see whether the fire was an accident or started deliberately by someone.
