Residents of Rua Frei Ibiapina, known as Rua Nova, in the center of Picos, saw the 2026 World Cup decorations fade before the debut of the Brazilian team. The paintings, made around 15 days ago on the asphalt, lost their color due to the strong sun that hits the city, one of the hottest in Piauí.
Residents painted flags, the World Cup cup, the name of Brazil, national team symbols and other designs in preparation for the tournament. However, the strong sun made the colors lose intensity before the Brazilian team's first game, scheduled for this Saturday (13).

To maintain the traditional color during the competition, residents decided to get together again to buy paint and redo the decoration.
"We're going to buy more paint and give it a new lease of life, paint everything again. Every pantry we do this, we come together and share the expenses to decorate the street. Everyone helps," said Antônio de Sousa, one of the organizers, to g1.
The tradition of decorating the street to accompany the Brazilian team's games brings together residents of all ages. One of them is student Carlos Henrique, who helped create part of the drawings.
"I helped with the painting, the drawings, I did, for example, the design of the ball for this year's World Cup", he said.
⚽ The official ball of the 2026 World Cup is called Trionda. It was created for the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The name refers to the three host countries and the traditional "hello" of the fans. The design brings together the colors red, green and blue and features symbols that represent each host country.

Picos is among the hottest cities in Piauí and experiences strong sunshine throughout most of the year. With little cloud cover, the sun's rays reach the ground directly, which accelerates the wear of paintings exposed to the weather.
The location close to the Equator also contributes to high levels of ultraviolet radiation during the hottest times. Furthermore, the region records many hours of sunshine throughout the year.
Even with the extra work to redo the decoration, residents are still excited for the debut of the Brazilian team.
"On game days it's incredibly exciting, a lot of people put their televisions out to watch. We're Brazilians, we have to support it," declared Antônio.
The organizer is betting on Brazil winning 2-0. Carlos Henrique believes in a score of 2-1.
