The European Union's new Migration and Asylum Charter will enter into force starting today, Friday, June 12, in a step that Brussels is betting on to tighten controls on external borders, speed up the decision on asylum applications, and distribute the burdens of migration among member states, amid expectations that this shift will open the door to greater cooperation with the countries of the South, most notably Morocco.
