Family of Brazilian referee prepares banquet for his World Cup debut The family of Ramon Abatti Abel, the first referee from Santa Catarina selected for a World Cup, is already warming up to watch the professional's debut in the coming days. The meeting will take place at his home in Araranguá, a city in the south of Santa Catarina where he lives with his family — and there will be lots of wine, typical food and celebration. Born in Turvo, in the same region, Ramon joined FIFA's international staff in 2023. History At the age of 20, when he was still playing football, he received his first invitation to whistle. The first match was in the Municipal Veterans Championship of Ermo (SC). In 2012, he joined the official refereeing team of the Santa Catarina Football Federation (FCF), refereeing his first official match in the Santa Catarina Under-17 Championship, in Tubarão, in the south of Santa Catarina. In 2017, he was appointed to join the national panel of referees of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Ramon joined FIFA's international team in 2023.
