The reproductive health of solitary bees (osmia) is affected by high heat. Insects, male and female, even if it is in males that the fall is greatest, see the quality of the gametes produced drop if they have been exposed to scorching temperatures during their development. These wild bees are, however, vital pollinators, particularly for the fruit production on which we depend.
