Over the weekend, judge Omar Artan, the first Somali man called up for a World Cup, was deported after being questioned for 11 hours by immigration agents at Miami airport. This Wednesday (10), a White House official told the American press that Artan was prevented from entering the United States because “he had connections with people suspected of belonging to terrorist organizations”. This official further stated that “the Trump administration will not allow any threat to enter the country.”

To the newspaper "The New York Times", the judge said that he was asked during the interrogation at immigration if he knew any member of the terrorist group Al Shabab. Artan replied that he knew nothing about the group.
The referee arrived this Wednesday (10) in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu, and was received like a hero at the city's main stadium. Omar Artan said what happened to him was an unfortunate incident, but he wished the World Cup referees success and said he hopes to take part in the next World Cup.
The Somali government stated that it will ask the United States for clarification and declared that Somalis are proud of their achievements.
