In addition to the launch, there will be a discussion panel about the work with the presence of Tia Zezé Libório and teachers Piedade Videira, Simei Santos Andrade and Raquel Amorim dos Santos. The author will also be honored.
According to the author, the research was developed based on the Theory of Historical Memory and Oral History, bringing together interviews, photographic records and reports produced during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The work dialogues with important scholars of Afro-Amapaense memory and culture, revealing Mara Baixo as a living expression of faith, resistance, tradition and ancestral continuity”, highlights Francisco.
The book highlights the narratives of five Marabaixeira women recognized as guardians of the Amazon's intangible heritage, namely: Tia Joca, Tia Zefinha, Tia Zefa do Quinca, Tia Biló and Tia Zezé Libório. Their stories help to understand the role of Maraçá in the culture and history of the state.
Francisco explains that the research covered historical territories of Afro-Amapa culture, such as Mazagão Velho, Quilombo do Curiaú, the Laguinho neighborhood and the old Favela, today Santa Rita.
“These are spaces marked by the preservation of black memory and the continuity of the celebrations of the Maraçá cycle”, says the author.
