Presidente Médici Municipal School of Marapanim, in PA. MPPA The Court of Pará ordered the Municipality of Marapanim, in the northeast of the state, to adopt urgent measures to restructure the Escola Municipal Presidente Médici, located in the village of Maranhãozinho. The decision responds to an action by the Public Ministry of the State of Pará (MPPA) and was announced this Tuesday (9). The action was proposed by prosecutor Gruchenhka Oliveira Baptista Freire, from the Marapanim Public Prosecutor's Office. School conditions According to the MPPA, the action was filed after serious irregularities were discovered in the unit. During an on-site visit, the agency identified a dilapidated physical structure, accumulation of rubbish, damaged furniture, bat infestation and the absence of basic hygiene and safety conditions. MPPA The Public Prosecutor's Office also reported that, when contacted, the municipal administration indicated that the school's renovation would only be scheduled for 2028. What the court determined In the preliminary decision, the Court ordered the municipality to present, within 30 days, a detailed schedule for adapting the school. The document must include a diagnosis of structural conditions and a reform plan. It was also established that municipal management refrain from spending on events and advertising until the decision is complied with. In case of non-compliance, a daily fine of R$5,000, limited to R$100,000, may be imposed, in addition to managers being held liable. For prosecutor Gruchenhka Freire, the decision reinforces the role of the Marapanim Public Prosecutor's Office in defending the right to education and guaranteeing decent teaching conditions.
