"The vaccine from the Takeda laboratory, which is made for children aged 10 years to teenagers aged 14, continues with normal vaccination throughout the country", explains the director of the Department of the National Immunization Program of the Ministry of Health, Eder Gatti, in an interview with Rádio Nacional.
Qdenga has been available on the public network since 2024. Around 8 million doses have already been administered in Brazil, according to the Ministry of Health.
Furthermore, Gatti highlights that the Butantan vaccine is recommended for people over 15 years of age and was not available to the entire population.
“It [Butantan vaccine] was aimed at a very specific audience, because we had just started the strategy,” he states.
The Butantan vaccine was incorporated into the Unified Health System (SUS) in January this year.
Health professionals from Primary Health Care and, in an expanded form, the public aged 15 to 49 years old from three cities - Botucatu (SP), Maranguape (CE) and Nova Lima (MG) - and the region of Araguaína (TO) were vaccinated. As of May 30, more than 501,000 people had been immunized.
