RAWALPINDI: Several people died on Wednesday after a fire erupted in a vehicle on the Islamabad-Murree Expressway near Khajut, the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) said. In a statement, the NHMP spokesperson said that the fire “erupted suddenly in a Hiace van”, as a result of which “several people” died. Relief and rescue efforts were underway after contingents of the motorway police and the district administration reached the site, the spokesperson added. An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the fire, the statement said, adding that further details would be shared later.
