Exclusive audio and videos reveal that police officers sold drugs in Paraíba
In addition to negotiating drugs with traffickers, civil police officers arrested last week in Paraíba are also suspected of protecting fugitives from justice and passing on confidential information about police operations to members of organized crime.
The suspicions are part of the investigation conducted by the Public Ministry and the Civil Police that resulted in the arrest of nine people, including investigators Everton Aires, known as "Bomba", Eduardo Jorge, the "White Hand", and police chief Brás Morrone.
According to investigators, the group was not just involved in the illegal drug trade. The investigation indicates that police officers used access to privileged information to benefit criminals and hinder the actions of security forces.
According to the investigation, members of the organization warned drug dealers and other targets of police actions before carrying out operations, allowing them to prepare to avoid arrests or seizures.
The police also claim that fugitives from justice had a type of protection offered by the group.

Connection with suspect from Novo Cangaço
Among those benefiting from the privileged information would be José Alexandrino Júnior Lira, known as Júnior Lira. According to the Civil Police, he has been investigated for years for participating in attacks on banks and armored vehicles in the Northeast and was believed to be a member of the so-called Novo Cangaço.
The investigations indicate that, in addition to committing crimes against financial institutions, Júnior Lira also invested resources obtained in these actions in drug trafficking.
In audios analyzed by investigators, suspects mention negotiations involving the name Júnior Lira and discuss strategies for selling narcotics in different cities in the region.
According to the police, the proximity between those investigated went beyond telephone contacts. The meetings took place in person and there are records of photographs and videos shared on social networks showing coexistence between police officers and criminals.

Close relationship
For those responsible for the investigation, one of the elements that caught their attention was the natural way in which police and suspects maintained contact.
The investigation identified that those investigated negotiated directly with criminals and shared information that should remain restricted to security forces.
The case is treated by investigators as an example of infiltration by organized crime within State structures.
"The fact that they are agents of the State gives those people the power of those who are there aware, truly believing that they are shielded. It is something very serious and needs to be fought with all their might," said one of the investigators responsible for the case.

The operation that led to the arrests was launched after an investigation that began in May last year. According to the Civil Police, the investigations began after a drug dealer reported on social media the theft of a load of drugs that, according to the investigation, had been diverted by police officers for later resale.
The defenses of those being investigated deny the accusations. The lawyers claim that the clients' innocence will be demonstrated during the process and dispute the interpretation of the elements gathered by the investigation.
The case remains under investigation.
