What are the next steps and deadlines for the US trade investigation against Brazil? President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) participates this Wednesday (10) in the first meeting of the year of the Council for Sustainable Economic and Social Development, known as "Conselhão". The meeting, which will feature businesspeople from different sectors of the economy, will take place amid the United States' new tariff offensive on Brazilian products. The tariffs proposed by Donald Trump's government could reach 37.5%, if the measures are implemented. 🔎The "Conselhão", which brings together ministers, businesspeople and activists and was created in 2003, discusses and suggests to the government public policies in different areas. The meeting is scheduled for 10 am at the Itamaraty Palace, headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This year's meeting has the motto “From national sovereignty to global protagonism”. The meeting is expected to be opened by the Minister of Institutional Relations, José Guimarães (PT). Afterwards, counselors give brief speeches, followed by President Lula, who closes the opening of the meeting. Defense of national sovereignty According to assistants at Palácio do Planalto, the statements should reinforce Brazil's position on the international scene, with statements aimed at national sovereignty and the defense of multilateralism. Still according to these interlocutors, the results of the work of the counselors and an assessment of the collegiate's actions since its reconstitution will also be presented. In the afternoon, vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) is expected to participate in a panel that will bring together authorities and advisors to debate the international agenda in the search for converging paths for the country's economic, social and sustainable development. 🎯This will be the seventh meeting of its kind since the body was recreated in 2023. The body was extinguished during the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The meetings aim to bring together sectors of civil society from the most diverse fronts and also deal with major current issues. Combating femicide During the meeting, it is also planned to present a booklet prepared by members of the Council on combating femicide entitled "Protected Women's Manual". The manual organizes theoretical foundations, evidence, management guidelines and operational instruments to guide public policies to prevent and combat femicide, with a focus on the full protection of women, coordinated State action and social co-responsibility. "In general, this is not an unpredictable or isolated event. Most cases are preceded by signs of escalation, requests for help, threats, coercive control, psychological violence, physical aggression, persecution, relationship rupture, non-compliance with protective measures or institutional omissions. Therefore, public policy must shift its center of gravity from the subsequent response to crime to active prevention and risk-based protection", says the material that will be delivered to President Lula. Retrospective The executive secretary of the Council, Raimunda Monteiro, told g1 that, over the years, the collegiate has increased the number of members, reaching the current 280 members. "Society today is a complex society, a society with a very strong civil society organization in all sectors, in all regions of the country, in all segments and this diverse, organized, representative social universe needed to be present in some way in the reinstallation of the Council. Including this nickname that is now becoming institutionalized precisely due to the number of members, but also due to the representation it presents today", he said. According to Raimunda Ribeiro, in this seventh edition of the meeting, the collegiate will present a retrospective of special initiatives and agendas that have been developed within the government within the scope of public policies. The executive secretary highlighted some examples such as contributions to the regulated carbon market law, boosting early childhood policy, recovery of degraded areas in the country, circular economy strategy, proposals for energy transition, intensification of biofuel production.
