The action was filed with a request for an urgent decision and focuses on guaranteeing students' rights during the movement. The Defender's Office states that it does not question the strike or the category's demands.
"We do not intend to go into the merits of the strike or the administrative issues. What we seek is to ensure the right of children to attend school, especially as a space of protection", stated the strategic coordinator of Promotion and Defense of the Rights of Children and Adolescents at DPMG, Daniele Bellettato Nesrala.

Before going to court, the Public Defender's Office reported that it participated in meetings with representatives from the Municipal Department of Education, the Public Ministry and other bodies to try to build an alternative that would guarantee basic assistance to students during the strike.
In the action, the agency highlights that schools perform functions that go beyond teaching. For many children and adolescents, they also represent access to food, care and social protection.
Understand the strike
Professionals from the municipal education network decided to maintain the strike at a meeting held on May 19th. At the time, the category stated that the movement would continue due to the lack of agreement with the City of Belo Horizonte (PBH).
Among the main demands are salary recovery and improvements in working conditions. The Union of Education Workers of the Municipal Public Network of Belo Horizonte (Sind-Rede/BH) also points out the overload of employees and a lack of transparency regarding the availability of places in schools.
The city hall reported that it agreed with six of the eight priority agendas presented by the category and maintained the salary adjustment proposal of 4.1%. The workers, however, defend that the index be increased by another 2.4% of recomposition.
The municipal administration also argues that the starting salary of the network's teachers, with a weekly working day of 22 hours and 30 minutes, is above the national minimum for the category.
In the action, the Public Defender highlights that schools perform functions that go beyond teaching. For many children and adolescents, they also represent access to food, care and social protection.
