Video shows colonel preventing woman from leaving truck before arrest for contempt The Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJ-SP) stated, this Monday (8), that it granted provisional freedom to the reserve colonel of the Military Police of Minas Gerais José Eufrasio Barreto. He had been arrested red-handed in the early hours of Sunday (7) for contempt, disobedience and damage to public property. To respond to the process in freedom, the soldier must appear in court when summoned and cannot leave the district without prior authorization. The report tried to contact Barreto's defense, but did not receive a response until the last update of this text. Contempt and imprisonment Footage from one of the guards' body cameras recorded the moment when the colonel shouts and questions the agents' authority (see above). According to the police report, he was approached after the guards suspected a situation of violence against his wife. Surveillance cameras recorded an argument between the couple inside the truck. According to the agents' report, the woman tried to get out of the moving vehicle, at which point the colonel pulled her abruptly. When the guards arrived, the colonel started shouting and refused to comply with the agents' orders. "Identify myself to whom? Who are you to identify me?", he said. Then, one of the guards questioned the reason for the excitement. The colonel responded harshly, with an expletive, and again challenged the authority of the Municipal Guard agents. "What are you on the agenda? You are pigeon-kickers", he stated. At another point, Barreto punched the Municipal Guard vehicle, denting the vehicle's hood. According to the incident, he also tried to leave the scene with the truck, but was prevented by the agents. Shouting, he demanded that the guards contact a Military Police colonel or even the mayor. Arrest in the act According to the incident report, the guards called a Military Police team, but the reserve colonel continued to fail to respond to orders. He was then taken to the police station, where the deputy on duty ordered his arrest for the three crimes. Barreto was kept in a separate cell at the Sumaré Police Station. He was not transferred to the Romão Gomes Military Prison, in the capital of São Paulo, because the unit does not receive soldiers from other states. Placements In a statement, the Military Police of Minas Gerais reported that the case involves a retired police officer and that, as it is a common crime, the investigation will be the responsibility of the Judiciary Police.
