Law published this Monday (8) defines basic guidelines for improving health care for people living with pain and establishes the National Day for Awareness and Coping with Chronic Pain on July 5th. The standard ensures comprehensive care in the Unified Health System (SUS) and provides prior guidance on risks and possible adverse effects of treatments. According to the International Association for the Study of Pain, chronic pain is pain that lasts longer than 30 days. Annual campaigns The date will be represented by the color green and should mobilize public authorities to promote awareness campaigns every year.  The initiative seeks to expand access to qualified information about therapeutic options available in the SUS, combat prejudice and encourage health managers to adopt humanized and effective multidisciplinary approaches. Impact on the population It is estimated that chronic pain affects around 60 million Brazilians. By recognizing the dimension of the problem, the law intends to strengthen public policies aimed at the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of these patients.
