Woman dies and 11 other people are injured after bus overturns on BR-290, in RS The cause of the accident with one death and 11 injuries after a bus overturned on the BR-290, in Glorinha, in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, on Saturday night (6), is being investigated. "What catches our attention is that there is no braking mark there, there is no mark that shows that the driver had to make a sudden change of direction. The vehicle overturned at kilometer 42 of the highway, towards the coast-capital, at around 10:20 pm. The trip left Curitiba (PR) heading to the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. 'There was a girl under the ground', reports the only unharmed passenger The only passenger who was unharmed was soldier Oziel Batista da Silva Pereira. He helped evacuate people and provided first aid. "I managed to make some bandages, I managed to help. There was a girl who was underground. I and another guy managed to remove the dirt from her face so she could breathe", he recalls. He was wearing a seat belt, which ensured he was not injured. The PRF emphasizes the importance: "The number of injured people draws our attention. This is a case that also serves as a warning to the population about the need to use seat belts on buses." The accident The vehicle left the road, hit the metal guardrail and fell into an embankment on the side of the highway. The bus traveled approximately 100 meters against the structure before tipping over. One hypothesis is that the driver may have fallen asleep, but the police are awaiting the forensic report to clarify the cause. "He doesn't remember what exactly happened, the breathalyzer test was carried out on him there, it came back to zero, so, in principle, everything is fine with him. Even due to the whole situation involving the accident itself, at the time there he couldn't explain to us what happened", says Paveck. Injured The names of the victims were not released. Six people were admitted to Dom João Becker Hospital, in Gravataí. On Sunday morning (7), two remained hospitalized without serious injuries. In Porto Alegre, two other people are hospitalized at Cristo Redentor Hospital, one of the victims underwent surgery. In Santo Antônio da Patrulha, four people were treated, one of whom was sent to Christ the Redeemer. Two people remain hospitalized. The bus driver took over driving the vehicle in Florianópolis (SC). During the incident, he offered to take a breathalyzer test, which showed a negative result for alcohol consumption. Forensics have been called and should clarify the causes of the accident.
