Library Illustrative image Belo Horizonte hosts the first edition of the Minas Gerais International Literary Festival (FliMinas 2026), which continues until June 13th, at Expominas. The event brings together activities that integrate literature, education, culture and creative economy, with the aim of consolidating the capital of Minas Gerais as one of the main literary hubs in the country. The organization estimates an audience of up to 300,000 visitors throughout the program days, which will run until Friday, from 8am to 9pm, and on Saturdays, from 8am to 5pm. The agenda includes in-person and digital activities, such as lectures, debate tables, workshops, book launches, autograph sessions, storytelling, exhibitions and poetic-musical performances. The festival brings together around 230 independent authors, as well as national and international guest writers. More than 700 publishers and around 152 exhibitors also participate, including bookstores, distributors and publishing labels of different sizes. The agenda also includes creative writing workshops, debates on encouraging reading in schools and activities aimed at reading mediation and strengthening community libraries. Among the axes of the festival are children's and young adult literature, independent production, comics and literature in Portuguese. Part of the program establishes a dialogue with Portuguese-speaking countries, with emphasis on African authors, as well as reflections on the cultural influence of immigration in Minas Gerais. The event structure has physical and content accessibility resources, such as Libras interpreters, audio description, subtitles and expanded materials, in addition to teams trained for inclusive service.
