Military Police reserve major Joel Paulo de Almeida Júnior, 53 years old, was arrested on Saturday night (6), after an incident that began with a complaint about loud noise and ended with gunshots, threats and hours of police negotiation in the Perocão neighborhood, in Guarapari.
According to the Military Police, the confusion began after a neighbor called Dial Silêncio to report the volume of music at a party held in an area of the military's residence, where there is also a bar.

The resident reported that, after making the complaint, she was threatened by the major. According to her, the man fired shots towards the house where she lives. One of the walls of the property was hit by a shot.
Frightened, the woman called the Military Police. She stated that she received instructions from the police to hide inside the house while the incident was being attended to.
When the teams arrived at the scene, they found the gates of the residence closed and difficulty in contacting the resident due to the party taking place at the property. According to the PM, the regulars were gradually removed and taken to a safe location.
Shot at the police
According to the corporation, during the incident the major appeared several times carrying a firearm and wearing a ballistic vest.
The Military Police reported that he threatened the agents who were surrounding the residence and, at a certain point, fired two shots in the direction of the garrisons.
The Independent Company for Special Operations and Combating Organized Crime (CIOE) were called in to negotiate the soldier's surrender. After hours of negotiation, he handed himself in around 1am this Sunday (7).

Joel Paulo de Almeida Júnior was taken to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in Ipiranga and, later, taken to the headquarters of the 10th Military Police Battalion. He was charged with military threat crime and sent to the Military Prison.
Street was isolated
During searches of the residence, police seized two pistols. A .380 caliber gun, with two magazines and 22 rounds of ammunition, was found inside a clay pot on the bar counter next to the house. Another 9 mm caliber pistol, with four magazines and 34 rounds of ammunition, was also seized.
Residents in the region reported that the street remained isolated for much of the night and that they were advised to stay indoors. Some neighbors stated that the soldier had already been involved in previous disagreements in the neighborhood.

PM's wife disputes version
By telephone, the major's wife, Sirlene Augustinho Cândido, contested the version presented by neighbors and the Military Police. According to her, the party had not yet started and the sound was just being tested when the complaint occurred.
Sirlene also stated that she was forcibly removed from the premises by police officers and accused the agents of invading the residence without a court order. She also said that the property was searched during the police action and claimed that messages stored on her cell phone had been deleted by the military.
"The party hadn't even started. The DJ was testing the sound. They threw me on the floor, took my phone and entered my house. When I came back, there were dozens of police officers inside and the whole house was ransacked," he said.
The woman also said that she intends to seek legal assistance and demand an investigation into the conduct of the police officers involved in the incident. The husband of the neighbor who reported the case said that the families have lived together on the same street for more than 20 years and said he was surprised by the soldier's behavior. According to him, the couple fears returning home after what happened.
