LGBT+ parade in SP this Sunday (7) Letícia Dauer/g1 The USP/CEBRAP Political Debate Monitor and the NGO More in Common estimated the presence of 36.8 thousand people at the 30th edition of the São Paulo LGBT+ Pride Parade this Sunday (7), on Avenida Paulista, in the center of the capital. As the margin of error is 12%, this means that there were between 32,300 and 41,200 participants at 2:37 pm, peak time. The count is made from aerial photos analyzed with artificial intelligence software. Photos were taken at 6 times (11:32 am, 12:22 pm, 12:58 pm, 1:32 pm, 2:12 pm and 2:37 pm). For the audience count, 27 photos taken at 2:37 pm were selected. The images covered the entire length, without overlapping (see the methodology below). In 2025, 48,747 people participated on Avenida Paulista. In 2024, the estimated audience was 73.6 thousand people. São Paulo hosts the LGBT+ Pride Parade With the theme "The street calls, the ballot box confirms", the Parade celebrates three decades of mobilization of the LGBTQIAPN+ community. The event reinforces the importance of occupying the streets as a space for political mobilization and claiming rights. This year, Brazil also celebrates 30 years of the electronic voting machine. Therefore, the choice of theme refers to elections and the importance of popular participation in democracy. The message is that mobilization in the streets and voting go hand in hand in defending and expanding the rights of the LGBTQIAPN+ population. See the counting methodology To assess the size of a demonstration in a scientific and rigorous way, the political debate monitor and More in Common established a method. The process starts with a drone. A professional operator flies over the entire demonstration area and photographs the crowd from top to bottom, at a 90-degree angle. This is important because in a tilted image, one person can cover the other. These high definition photos are then put together like a puzzle that covers the entire event area. It is in this image that the artificial intelligence software begins counting the audience. The tool was trained by USP researchers with real images of Brazilian demonstrations. She accurately recognizes people in a crowd. Each individual becomes a blue dot in the image. The final count is the sum of these points. The count has a margin of error. However, the method is constantly being improved to increase accuracy. The software identifies each person, head by head. It is not an estimate based on density, as was more common. When the demonstration begins, a drone goes up and an initial count is taken. The process is repeated every 30 minutes until the event ends. In the end, the highest recorded number is published. The peak of people present. All images used for measurement are available on a public website. This allows anyone to audit, counting manually or running other software. It is a rigorous, transparent and auditable method. It is possible to see the audience counts already made at www.monitordigital.org and www.moreincommon.org.br.
