Plaster lining of the pediatrics ceiling at Hospital Getúlio Vargas collapses Part of the plaster lining on the ceiling of the pediatrics department at Hospital Getúlio Vargas (HGV), in the Cordeiro neighborhood, in the West Zone of Recife, collapsed in the early hours of this Sunday (7). Images sent to g1 and TV Globo show the damage to the room (see video above). The accident happened when there were no people at the scene. From the images, it is possible to see debris from the plaster on the floor and a hole in the ceiling, from which it is possible to see beams and pipes. According to the witness's report, the mothers of the hospitalized children heard a loud noise and thought that one of the patients or equipment had fallen. Still according to her, when they entered the ward room – where patients' belongings are stored and medications are separated – they found the ceiling lining fallen. Hospital Getúlio Vargas has a maintenance contract worth R$6.8 million. The area where the ceiling collapsed had not yet been included in this renovation, according to the secretariat, which also stated that an investigation had begun to identify the causes of what happened. Among the government's lines of investigation is the possibility of leaks at the site.
