Guto Miguel is Roland Garros youth champion
Luís Miguel, father of tennis player Guto Miguel from Goiás, abandoned his career as a lawyer because he believed that one of his three sons could be a tennis champion one day, according to his friend Flávio Cardoso. The 17-year-old became the first Brazilian to win the title of youth champion at Roland Garros, one of the main tennis tournaments in the world, held in Paris, France.
Flávio says that he is a long-time friend of Guto's father and that all the family's sacrifices are bearing fruit. According to him, the lawyer gave up his career, comfort and stability for a single purpose: to turn his children into professional tennis players.
Luís Augusto, Luís Otávio and Luís Felipe had the support of their father, who also played tennis and even participated in some tournaments, to pursue this dream. Flávio owns a tennis academy in Goiânia and said that Luís Miguel decided to abandon his career when it became impossible to reconcile the boys' routine with his professional life.

"It got to a certain point where there was no longer any way to balance work and these trips to accompany the boys in tournaments, training and the time he dedicated. So, he had to make the decision to abandon his career so he could be 100% available in this necessary day-to-day routine", said the businessman in an interview with g1.
Flávio even called his friend "Richard Williams Goiano", in reference to the father of North American tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, who guided his daughters on their path towards a professional career.

Dream
The friend says that Luís Miguel always had the dream of making his children play professionally and that he even took over his children's training for a while. With this dream in mind, his father made the decision to "abandon everything" when Guto was around 12 years old.
"They decided to leave Goiânia and invested everything in Guto when he started to stand out and went to live in Brasília, because it had a better structure so he could have better results", said Flávio.
The eldest son, Luís Felipe, plays university tennis in the United States and has played doubles with Guto, while Luís Otávio left the courts to study. Meanwhile, the family's dream lives on now that Guto will take the lead in the category ranking for athletes up to 18 years old after his performance at the Grand Slam in Paris.

Inspiration
Flávio says that many people may think that Luís Miguel's dedication to giving up his own life to dedicate himself to his children's dreams is crazy, but that his attitude is inspiration for tennis players who dream of playing professionally.
"What I admire most about this story, which I followed, is exactly this courage he had, this conviction to believe, the part of giving up everything, right? His profession, his daily routine, everything he could do for himself, to be able to do for his children", said Flávio.
Flávio says he doesn't know if his friend is back to work nowadays, with his children already grown up and the expectation of a spectacular career for Guto on the circuit. However, he highlights that it was all worth it and that the decision was the right one.
"People will always call you crazy, right? So, of course that happened, but extraordinary things are exactly that. If there's not a little madness, it seems like we can't achieve the result he achieved", he concluded.
