The issue of illegal immigration is at the forefront of the Libyan scene again, amid rising popular and official fears about any arrangements that might lead to the settlement of migrants within the country. This coincided with massive security campaigns in eastern Libya to control and deport irregular migrants, and protests in Tripoli that reached the vicinity of the United Nations mission and the headquarters of the High Commissioner for Refugees.
