Anyone who passes through the South Deck, on L4 Sul, sees a curious scene at Lake Paranoá, in Brasília: a carpet of aquatic plants takes over the water mirror this Sunday morning (7).
According to Caesb, responsible for removing plants from the water, the presence of the species "is a natural phenomenon and varies throughout the year" (see the full note below).

"There are periods when these plants grow faster and in greater volume, influenced by factors such as light, temperature, depth and natural environmental conditions", states the company.
The removal of aquatic plants is done by the Papaguapé boat. According to Caesb, this year alone, approximately 2,500 cubic meters of aquatic plants were removed.
The company also states that the phenomenon is not related to the appearance of algae in the water surface or to the treatment carried out by the company.
"Lake Paranoá remains monitored, safe and suitable for its multiple uses, including water supply, leisure and sport", he states.

What does Caesb say?
"Caesb clarifies that there is no risk to water quality, fauna or users of Lake Paranoá. The presence of aquatic plants is a natural phenomenon and varies throughout the year. As with other plant species, there are periods in which these plants grow more quickly and in greater volume, influenced by factors such as light, temperature, depth and natural environmental conditions.
Therefore, at certain times, Caesb intensifies the work of removing plants, in the same way that the maintenance of green areas, for example, requires more grass cutting during periods of greatest growth.
In Lake Paranoá, this management is done with the Papaguapé boat, used by the Company especially in the South Deck region and in other accumulation points.
Since the beginning of 2026, approximately 2,500 cubic meters of aquatic plants have already been removed. The operation remains ongoing, according to the need identified by the teams in the field.
Caesb reinforces that the situation is not related to algae or the water treatment process carried out by the Company. Lake Paranoá remains monitored, safe and suitable for its multiple uses, including water supply, leisure and sport."
