Chinese broadcaster Zhang Yuan, who was controversial in the past for disparaging Korean culture and making anti-Korean remarks, resumed his social network service (SNS) activities after two years. On the 17th, Zhang Yuan posted several newly taken profile photos on his SNS account along with a short greeting in Chinese saying, “It’s been a long time.” This post is his first recent update in two years since he stopped his activities after controversy. Zhang Yuan received strong criticism from the Korean public for making excessive remarks during a personal live broadcast in May 2024. He claimed that “Korea is stealing Chinese culture, including Dragon Boat Festival, Confucius, and Chinese characters,” and announced that he would conduct a street interview. In particular, he made a mocking remark, saying, "I will look around Gyeongbokgung Palace wearing the clothes of the emperor of the Ming and Song dynasties. It will feel like the emperor has come to inspect a vassal state." He also made an unfounded claim that “if you trace the ancestry of Koreans back only 3 to 4 generations, a significant number are Chinese.” As the controversy grew out of control and all schedules in Korea were canceled, Zhang Yuan rushed to do something.
