The Ebola hemorrhagic fever outbreak is occurring in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in central Africa. The World Health Organization has declared a ``public health emergency of international concern'' due to the risk of the virus spreading to surrounding countries and regions. We asked Masayuki Saijo, director of the Hakodate Municipal Health Center, who is a former director of the Virology Department of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases and is an expert on Ebola hemorrhagic fever, about this outbreak.
