Starting on the 20th, residents in rural areas without banks will be able to apply for loans from the four major commercial banks (KB Kookmin, Shinhan, Hana, and Woori Bank) through the post office. On the 13th, the Financial Services Commission and the Postal Service Division of the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that they had signed a ‘Post Office Bank Agency Business Agreement’ with the Korea Financial Telecommunications and Clearings Institute and the four major commercial banks and would proceed with loan pilot operations. Loan applications can be made at 20 general post offices among county-level areas that have a declining population and do not have commercial banks as announced by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. There are a total of 8 products being sold, including 2 personal credit loans (including New Hope Spore) selected by each bank. Customers can receive loan consultation at their local post office and select a product with favorable conditions by comparing loan interest rates and loan limits for each bank. The post office is responsible for serving the public, including loan counseling, document preparation, and reception. The bank conducts loan screening, approval, and follow-up management. The Financial Services Commission is committed to improving the infrastructure within the year, including digitizing documents and establishing a large-scale file transfer program, to ensure that loans are issued.
