On the 30th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it inspected a total of 21 products, including children's shoes, toys, and hats sold on AliExpress, Temu, and Shein, and found that 5 products did not meet the domestic safety standards notified by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Safety standards were confirmed to be non-compliant with 3 children's shoe products. Among these, two products had up to 284.6 times more phthalate plasticizers detected in the main material, decoration, insole leather, etc. than the standard value (0.1% or less for 7 types including DEHP). Phthalate plasticizers are substances that can cause endocrine disorders and cause side effects on reproductive functions such as reduced sperm count, infertility, and premature birth. It may cause irritation to the eyes and skin upon contact, and in particular, DEHP (diethylhexyl phthalate) is a possible human carcinogen (Class 2B) designated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. One shoe product is used in products for children under 36 months of age.
