A 67-year-old man was fined R$16,900 this Wednesday (17) for cutting down more than 30 native trees and building drains in Pirapozinho (SP).
According to the Environmental Police, the team was called to respond to a report of deforestation. At the site, authorities identified that 32 native and exotic trees had been cut down.

The trees were wild peanut, embaúba, milkweed, angico and sansão-do-campo species and were in a Permanent Preservation Area (APP).
Furthermore, the police found that 0.1819 hectares of the APP had been interfered with, with a humid area and diffuse water holes, for the construction of drains.

The owner of the site told the police that he was not aware of the need for authorization to cut and remove the trees. Given the situation, he received two environmental infraction notices totaling R$ 16,909.50.
The fines were imposed for irregular cutting of native trees and for preventing the natural regeneration of native vegetation in the area. In addition to administrative sanctions, the man will also be criminally liable for environmental infractions.
