Itaperuna dawns without buses after suspension of transport
The company responsible for urban public transport in Itaperuna stopped its activities this Wednesday (17), leaving the city without bus service.
According to the concessionaire, the decision was motivated by the lack of financial resources, worsened by a debt of more than R$3 million related to transfers from the City Hall.
Since the beginning of the day, there have been no buses running in the city, directly affecting thousands of passengers who depend on public transport every day.

In a statement, the Santa Lúcia company reported that there are no longer financial conditions to maintain the operation. In addition to the debt with the municipality, the concessionaire highlighted the increase in costs to maintain the service as one of the factors that contributed to the shutdown.
In a note, the City of Itaperuna stated that the debt relating to the current administration, estimated at around R$400 thousand, will be regularized.
Regarding the total value indicated by the company, which, according to the municipality, reaches approximately R$4 million, the administration informed that the case will be evaluated together with the legal sector to define the best form of negotiation and settlement.
So far, there is no forecast for the resumption of service.
The population awaits a solution to the impasse between the company and public authorities.
