At the G7 summit in France, leaders agreed to continue using the mechanism of economic sanctions against Russia's energy sector to negotiate an end to the war with Ukraine. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump declared that he could soon reinstate restrictions on Russian oil, which he had lifted to alleviate the effects of his war against Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
