Rod Stewart is being criticized by fans after appearing at a World Cup game hours after canceling a performance due to health issues.
The 81-year-old singer would perform in Chula Vista, California, on June 12th. But hours before the presentation, his team announced the cancellation of the presentation on medical advice.
"Rod Stewart, with great sadness, had to cancel his show tonight in Chula Vista, California. He traveled to the venue and did everything possible to perform, but, on medical advice and after being diagnosed with an acute respiratory infection resulting in laryngitis, he will not be able to take the stage tonight," the statement said.
However, the next day, the singer appeared on a private flight heading to Boston to "see our Scotland at the World Cup! No Scotland, no party", as he explained on social media.
The post generated a wave of criticism against the singer.
“He lost respect for his fans,” wrote one internet user. "That seems pretty dishonest to me. Too sick to perform but willing to travel across the country to watch a football game?" asked another.
“Thousands of people have been sent home disappointed after investing time, money and enthusiasm. Seeing images of you apparently celebrating and traveling the next day to watch a football game sends a deeply regrettable message,” followed another.
