Overload of atypical mothers: the routine of love and renunciation of those who dedicate their lives to caring "Physically and mentally tiring", described Desterro Lustosa, Anderson's atypical mother, 32 years old, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), level 3 of support. The housewife's routine is marked by the challenges of offering comprehensive care to her child in Teresina. Divided between the therapy routine, Anderson's care and household chores, Desterro doesn't have time to take care of herself. ✅ Follow the g1 Piauí channel on WhatsApp "I don't have time to do my nails, go to the salon or take care of myself. Going out or going to a party is very difficult. We get overwhelmed, with no time for ourselves. Sometimes I have leisure without it, when I go to the cinema with my daughter and husband, but it's rare", described the housewife. Overload, social isolation, prejudice and the fight for rights mark the lives of mothers who dedicate themselves entirely to caring for their children. A similar situation is experienced by fellow housewife Joice Rodrigues. She has two children with ASD, one aged 7 and the other aged 18. "They can't stay on the street, as they are very agitated. They don't sleep at night and I have to take turns," said Joice. On TV Clube, Soraia Martins, president of the Association of Friends of Autists of Piauí (AMA), stated that those responsible for people with ASD experience situations that leave them fragile. "There are many searches for rights, education, health and for one's own experience as a human being and a woman who takes care of her child for a long time", stated the president. In Piauí, more than 20 thousand people have the Identification Card for Persons with ASD. The document has been issued since 2019 and, since 2023, it is also available in digital format. The coordinator of the Autism Card of the Secretariat for Inclusion of People with Disabilities (Seid), Lidiane Matos, explained that the document guarantees priority care without the need to present medical reports. Public hearing The Teresina City Council will hold, next Tuesday (23), a public hearing on mental health, psychological support and suicide prevention for parents and caregivers of people with ASD. The hearing was requested by the AMA, which seeks public policies for people with ASD and their caregivers.
