What began as local opposition to a tourism megaproject linked to the Trump family has ended up becoming one of the largest citizen mobilizations recorded in Albania since the fall of the communist regime. Thousands of young people have taken to the streets to denounce a development model that, they say, prioritizes economic interests over the protection of the environment and the well-being of local communities. Under the name “Flemish Revolution”, the movement also questions corruption, the concentration of power and the role of the official media in the Balkan country. Why have these protests managed to mobilize an entire generation? What does this revolt really represent? We talked about it with Lorin Kadiu, journalist and executive director of 'Citizens Channel', who maintains that the problem goes far beyond Donald Trump: "We are not protesting against Trump, but against a philosophy based on the exploitation of nature."
