The United States and Iran have agreed to a memorandum of understanding that should end a new war in the Middle East. Its official signing is expected on June 19 in Geneva. The document calls for a 60-day ceasefire and opens the Strait of Hormuz to shipping. The full text of the agreement has not yet been published. According to CNN, the agreement does not include a requirement for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon (Israel participated in the bombing of Iran along with the United States). Shortly after the announcement of an agreement between Washington and Tehran, Israeli authorities announced that they did not consider themselves a party to this agreement. The Israeli opposition criticizes the prime minister for the results of the war in the Middle East; anonymous officials call the US-Iran agreement a failure for Israel.
