Did you know that the protective paper used for World Cup stickers, known as liner, cannot be disposed of in regular trash? 😯⚽🚮 The material requires a special reuse process, because it has a silicone coating that delays its decomposition by up to 100 years.
With this in mind, educators and students from the Lycée Français school in Brasília prepared a campaign to collect and send the protective paper for recycling (see video above). ♻️

g1 contacted Panini, the company responsible for manufacturing World Cup stickers, and received no response.
On the official page, the company has no information about how the liner should be disposed of, whether it has collection points or actions to mitigate pollution impacts.
How the project started

Maísa Siqueira Veras, biology and natural sciences teacher, had the idea of running the campaign after learning, through social media, about the need for recycling and received support from the school to carry out the project.
"The children are very engaged with the World Cup sticker album. I proposed it to the school, the school accepted and we started collecting. It's been a week and a half, two weeks," says Maísa.
Nina Trindade, sustainable development referee at Lycée Français, says that educators spoke to students about the importance of recycling and collecting material.
The idea is to gather liners by the end of June and send them to a company specializing in recycling, in São Paulo.
For collection, the educators involved in the project placed an acrylic urn in the school library (see photo above).
Students gather the paper at home, during sticker exchanges and at school. They deposit the paper in the container between classes.
Easy initiative

Student Bernardo Ribeiro de Melo, aged 13, says that the initiative is a way of contributing to the environment and that the students are being collaborative with the proposal.
"I think it's really cool, everyone is coming together for the greater good, and that's what everyone should do", says Bernardo.
For coordinators Manuela Melo and Lorenna Macedo, the initiative is very easy to put into practice in schools, institutions and condominiums: all you need is a container to collect the liners and then just send them to a company that carries out recycling.
