What does Famasul say
In a statement, the Agriculture and Livestock Federation of Mato Grosso do Sul (Famasul) said that it repudiates the actions that took place on the farms. Read in full:
Famasaul (Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Mato Grosso do Sul), vehemently repudiates the criminal act that occurred at Fazenda São Sebastião, in the municipality of Sidrolândia, this Saturday (13). The rural property, legitimately acquired by the owner, was invaded and vandalized by a criminal group made up of indigenous people.
The invaders set fires and stole machinery, agricultural inputs, horses and cattle. The headquarters and the entire structure of the rural property were burned, causing incalculable losses and preventing the legitimate exercise of productive activity. Trees were cut down and turned into barricades in an attempt to prevent the police from reaching the criminals.
The farm is the target of a lawsuit that has been going on for years in court and is still in the demarcation phase.
The Federation reinforces that the right to private property is provided for in the Constitution and must be respected. We cannot accept that rural producers continue to bear material and psychological losses without holding criminals accountable and without any compensation for losses that are the result of impunity. It is urgent to adopt firm and effective measures to ensure compliance with the law and legal security in the field.
Justice and the competent authorities must act firmly, investigating, identifying and holding responsible the perpetrators of the attack on the São Sebastião farm. It is unacceptable for anyone, regardless of ethnicity, to attack private property and legal security and remain unpunished.
Famasul will continue to work tirelessly for peace in the countryside, respect for the rule of law and legal security that guarantee production, development and social harmony in Mato Grosso do Sul.
