Court suspends toll collection for cars and motorcycles The Federal Court suspended the collection of tolls on BR-153 for vehicles registered in São Francisco de Goiás that go to Jaraguá, in the central region of the state. According to the decision document, the Court understood that the charge prevents residents of São Francisco de Goiás, which has just over 6 thousand inhabitants, from accessing basic services in the neighboring city. In a note, Ecovias Araguaia informed that it had not yet been formally notified and that, therefore, it continued to make charges normally until the last update of this report (read the full note at the end of the report). The document was signed by federal judge Marcelo Meireles Lobão on Sunday (7). The process was initiated by the management of the small municipality, which stated that collaboration between the city and Jaraguá helps in the functioning of public and private services such as health, education, commerce and banking services. ✅ Click and follow the g1 GO channel on WhatsApp The attorney for São Francisco de Goiás, Ricardo Franco, stated that the sentence does not question the payment of the toll, only how the payment affects the specific case. He also celebrated the decision and stated that it is "promising". "It is an important victory for the Municipality and for the residents, although we continue with caution, as there may still be resources. It is an action for 2023, but this Sentence is certainly already a great victory", he highlighted. The Court also noted in the decision that an analysis of vehicle circulation is necessary to find a solution and also discarded an argument presented by the highway concessionaire, that there were alternative routes between the municipalities. "The unpaved routes present poor structural conditions, with sections of difficult traffic, presence of irregularities in the ground, narrowing of the road due to dense vegetation and crossings over bridges without protection", describes the document. The judge decides, at the end of the decision, that the charges be suspended until a way is implemented to reduce the impacts of the charge on the movement of the local population. Ecovias Araguaia stated that it was awaiting a formal summons to analyze what measures will be taken. Note from Ecovias Araguaia "Ecovias Araguaia clarifies that, to date, it has not been formally notified of the aforementioned court decision. In this way, the concessionaire continues to charge toll fees normally, following the Concession Agreement and current regulatory standards. It also reinforces that it fully complies with all applicable legal and judicial determinations and that, as soon as it is officially notified of a possible decision, it will analyze its content and adopt the appropriate measures in accordance with the legislation and the guidelines of the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT).
