Manuel*, a Latin American asylum seeker, was detained during a FIFA match at MetLife Stadium in July 2025 and had to leave the United States after eleven weeks of detention, leaving behind his wife and children. While the 2026 World Cup final will be held at that same stadium in July, its story illustrates the risks that ICE operations pose for immigrant fans.
