According to Porciúncula City Hall, to surround the investigated area, agents carried out searches on land and also with the support of boats on the Carangola River. During the searches, agents located a ferry near the Criciúma neighborhood. Evidence of illegal mining was found at the site. During the operation, mats used to retain gold particles, diving suits, suction equipment and other materials used in irregular mineral exploration were seized. The incident was registered at the 139th Police Station of Porciúncula and forwarded to the Federal Police Station in Campos dos Goytacazes, responsible for investigating crimes related to mineral exploration. The three involved, two divers and the owner of the vessel, were caught in the act and sent to the prison system, where they remain at the disposal of the Court. In a statement, Porciúncula City Hall informed that it will continue to work together with the security forces to combat environmental crimes and preserve the municipality's natural resources.
