According to Ibama, the operation took place in the municipalities of São Miguel do Araguaia, Nova Crixás, Mundo Novo, Bonópolis and Amaralina, regions that concentrate important spawning beaches for the species. In total, 26 infraction notices were drawn up. According to the environmental agency, most of the irregularities identified were related to illegal fishing. During the action, inspectors seized more than 30 kilos of fish, four boats and a slaughtered alligator. Two turtles were also found and returned to the environment. As river levels drop, animals use the region's beaches to lay their eggs. According to the agency, irregular hunting during this period can cause environmental imbalance and compromise the preservation of species. The operation aimed to combat illegal practices that threaten animals and protect areas considered strategic for turtle reproduction in the Araguaia River basin. Ibama also reinforced the importance of complaints made by communities in the region to help combat environmental crimes.
