In 30 days, the integrated operations of federal, state and municipal security forces through the Brazil Against Organized Crime Program caused an estimated loss of 1.6 billion to criminal organizations.  The program was launched last month by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the first balance was released by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) this Thursday (11).   Related news: Government launches R$11 billion program against organized crime. Find out how the federal program against organized crime will work. The actions also resulted in the arrest of 7,961 defendants and the seizure of 82.5 tons of drugs. The ministry's work also resulted in the blocking of R$523 million in assets belonging to defendants belonging to organized crime.  The numbers were reached by carrying out 11 strategic operations, which used 9,964 security agents.  In the opinion of the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Wellington César Lima e Silva, the program represents a paradigm shift in public security policy. "Brazil is building a permanent strategy to combat organized crime. We are not just talking about police operations, but a national effort to financially weaken the factions, combat arms and drug trafficking, strengthen investigations and recover territories for the State and the population", he commented.  The Brazil Against Organized Crime program foresees an investment of R$11 billion, with R$1 billion from the Union Budget and R$10 billion via a loan from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) for the states.
