Essex Police/Reproduction
Vitória Figueiredo Barreto disappeared on March 3, after leaving the University of Essex, in southeast England. She made her last contact with family and friends that day and has not been located since.
The physical searches for the Brazilian were ended on March 20. Since then, the investigation has focused its efforts on collecting and analyzing evidence. In the last official update on the case, released on May 5, Essex Police advised residents to check garages, sheds and other structures where Vitória could have sought shelter.
According to information previously passed on by the police to the family, part of Vitória's bank details were analyzed by investigators.
According to family members, the main line of investigation considered by Essex Police is that Vitória remains on dry land. One of the hypotheses raised is that it may have been found by someone in a vulnerable situation and, subsequently, a victim of some criminal action.
Vitória's last confirmed steps are footage of her in a location near Brightlingsea marina, in the early hours of March 4th. Over the following days, Essex Police took statements, carried out physical searches and requested access to Vitória's data.
One of the hypotheses considered by the police is that she took a boat that was found adrift the following day, around noon, near the coast of Bradwell-On-Sea.
