Niger criminalizes homosexuality in its new penal code, according to the official newspaper consulted Thursday June 11 by AFP. This is a first in this predominantly Muslim and conservative country, where homosexuality was until now a taboo but had never been registered as a criminal offense. Several countries in the sub-region have tightened their legislation in this area since last year.
